The 2nd Annual UM Town Hall was held on October 11, 2017 at the Inn at Ole Miss. More than 250 faculty, staff and students heard Chancellor Vitter’s “State of the U,” took part in the launching of our new UM Oxford strategic plan FLAGSHIP FORWARD, shared ideas about our future, and interacted with university leaders and community members. #UMTownHall 2017 provided a platform for us to continue developing plans and next steps to harness the transformative power of higher education. During the Town Hall, participants imagined more than 200 future headlines (LINK TO HEADLINES) for each of the university’s four pillars — People, Places, and Resources, Academic Excellence, Healthy, Vibrant Communities and Athletic Excellence. In keeping with his commitment to transparency and broad communication, in August 2016, Chancellor Jeffrey Vitter hosted the first-ever, universitywide Town Hall. The results of the dynamic and interactive event engaged the university community in the first steps toward developing a shared vision for UM. In fact, over 550 ideas were shared by hundreds of faculty, staff, and students around the four themes of 1.) academic excellence, 2.) vibrant and healthy communities, 3.) athletics excellence, and 4.) people, places, and resources.
