As one of his first acts as chancellor, Chancellor Jeffrey Vitter launched a 100-day listening tour called the Flagship Forum. Starting in late January 2016, Dr. Vitter embarked on over 200 stops to learn firsthand about the great things being done at the university. Dr. Vitter distilled what he heard during the Flagship Forum into four pillar themes and hosted the first-ever, universitywide Town Hall Meeting on August 29, 2016, to engage the university community in the first steps toward developing a shared vision for UM.
In his “State of the University” during the Town Hall Meeting, Dr. Vitter called on the hundreds of faculty, staff and students in attendance to share their ideas on the four themes in terms of big opportunities and how we get there. Over 550 ideas were posted during the Town Hall by the UM community and are shared on this site around the four themes of 1.) academic excellence, 2.) vibrant and healthy communities, 3.) athletics excellence, and 4.) people, places, and resources.
